Predators sign draft pick Marek Mazanec to deal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Nashville Predators have signed their sixth-round draft selection in 2012 to a two-year, entry-level contract.

The Predators announced the deal Friday with goaltender Marek Mazanec (MAIR-ehk muh-ZAN-ehk).

Mazanec, 21, was Nashville’s ninth draft selection and the 179th overall in 2012. He is expected to play his first season in North America in 2013-14 after recently leading Plzen to its first Czech League title. He stopped 48 of 51 shots in a double overtime win in Game 7, and he also posted a .932 save percentage during the playoffs.

The goalie played for the Czech Republic at the 2011 World Junior Championships and the 2009 World Under-19 Championships.
