DYER COUNTY, Tenn. – Workers at a Dyer County business said they are thrilled, knowing the person accused of stealing from them is behind bars. It took deputies from two West Tennessee counties to get him there. “We’re very pleased to get our equipment back,” said Terry Harris, Choctaw Transportation manager. Workers at Choctaw Transportation Company said they were shocked to find out who the suspected thief was – a former employee. “Had no problem with him. He quit and went to another job and was a good employee while he was here,” Harris said. Deputies said that former employee is Jason McAlister, who has now been charged with stealing a trailer and a skid-steer loader at Choctaw – both items worth about $32,000. Thanks to some tips, deputies said they learned McAlister lived in Gibson County, so they went to the sheriff’s department there for help. “They developed an address through their leads and sent a deputy out, and the deputy observed the equipment from the roadway, parked on the side of the house there on Gann Road in Gibson County,” said Chief Investigator Terry McCreight, who is with the Dyer County Sheriff’s Department. Workers said it was all too easy to spot the suspected thief. He took the skid-steer loader right in front of one of their security cameras. “He didn’t try to hide behind it or get away from it, but the camera was right there on him the whole time,” Harris said. Proof, they said their security system did its job, and quickly. Deputies said McAlister will make his first court appearance in Dyer County, Thursday morning.
