HUMBOLDT, TN.: In downtown Humboldt, the topic of conversation is whether mother nature will rain on their parade as rain and possible thunderstorms are forecast for Friday morning. Thousands of people flock to Humboldt for the West Tennessee Strawberry Grand Floats Parade. Schools in Gibson County are even out for the day. “We have never called it off due to rain so the officials are really good about planning ahead and making sure all areas are covered. We are hoping Gary Pickens tells us it’s gonna be a great day for Friday and I have faith in him but I have faith in the Lord he will let the parade go on,” said Humboldt resident Debbie Bradford. What happens if it rains Friday morning? Will the parade go on? “We are carefully monitoring the weather right now and it looks like it might rain that morning and if it does we would have a rain delay and just postpone it a couple of hours,” said Sherri McCarter Chamber of Commerce executive director. Parade officials will make a decision early Friday morning. They ask parade goers to watch WBBJ-TV 7 for updates. Is there a chance that the parade could be moved to another day? “Possibly, but we are not looking at that right now and we would have to make that call that morning to see what we would do in that instance,” said McCarter. Mother nature could also rain on the plans Friday night in Humboldt. “The horse show is 6:30 Friday evening and depending on what the rain is if it is really heavy that may have to be postponed as well,” said McCarter. There is also a concert planned Friday at 8 p.m. at the park.
