USJ Hires Kentucky Alum to Lead Boys Basketball Team

JACKSON, Tenn.-USJ has welcomed a new member to the team. Kentucky alum and Nashville native Oliver Simmons will be the new head coach for the boys basketball team Simmons was a member of Kentucky’s 1996 NCAA championship team under coach Rick Pitino. Simmons transferred to Florida State after breaking his foot during his sophomore year at Kentucky. The Volunteer State native said he was excited to be back in his home state and the he plans to be a tough coach. “I try to run my program to the way a college coach would run theirs, so it’s very difficult to play for me, but is very rewarding at the same time,” said Oliver Simmons, USJ boys basketball coach. Coach Simmons said he will teach history while his wife is teaching English and the couple’s children will attend the school as well.
