Three Drownings in Eight Days Reported at Reelfoot Lake

LAKE COUNTY, Tenn- Three boating deaths in more than a week at one West Tennessee lake has some boaters taking extra precautions. It is a beautiful lake; but some boaters said what has happened in the past few days is not. “I was so sorry to hear about the drownings,” said Richie Brownlee, a Lake County fisherman. “Every year we have about three or four deaths,” said Kevin Bargery, of Lake County. Three men have drowned at Reelfoot Lake while fishing within eight days. The most recent claiming the life of an elderly Ohio man, last Thursday. According to leaders at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, earlier this month two men drowned while fishing in high winds. “You don’t want to go out when it’s windy or when it’s rough,” said Brownlee. “Always check the weather.” TWRA officials are urging all boaters to wear life jackets while in the water.
