JACKSON, Tenn.- The Madison County Commission met Monday. One of the first items on the agenda was a proclamation honoring local high school students. The North Side High School “Blue Thunder” Air Force Junior ROTC Team earned National Champion honors earlier this month down in Florida. County Commissioners voted in favor of $8,000 for video surveillance equipment for the Madison County Courthouse. They also voted in favor of spending $5,000 for panic buttons at the Courthouse. “We are getting to the end of the budget this is a clean up time bit the budget is going very well. I think one thing we have noticed in the budget process this year our revenue is down but we are going to do the very best we can with what we have to work with,” said Commissioner Gary Deaton. Katie Pace from Jackson Downtown Development brought some great news. She told the Commissioners in 2012 a total of $31.3 million was invested in the Main Street Program. The program was set up to revitalize downtown. “Right now we are leading as far as Main Street programs which we are one of 27 across the state of Tennessee. We have led that in 2012 so we are looking forward to continuing that in 2013 as well,” said Pace. The Audit Committee also told commissioners there is a now a place on the Madison County website to report any concerns of inappropriate use of county money. “If you think there is any fraud going on in the county you can reveal that. If there is anything going on in the county government that you are not satisfied with just let us know we will do our very best to change it,” said Deaton. The next county commission meeting is set for June 17.
