Plane Lands on Highway, Headed to Discovery Park

OBION COUNTY, Tenn.- Hundreds of people had their eyes on the sky in Union City as a piece of history landed right on Highway 51 Tuesday morning. A PT 17 World War II airplane landed fro the crowd and headed to retire in the Discovery Park of America. This is the first artifact that is going in the park, and CEO Jim Rippy said he is happy to have it. “We’re really excited to retire this plane for people to look at,” said Rippy. Mike Rinker, the pilot said flying the piece of history was an honor. “I enjoyed it. It was amazing for me to be out there and do it.” Discovery Park of America is a $100 million project funded by the Kirkland Foundation. The park will have 10 galleries, including a military exhibit where the plane will be featured. Rippy said he hopes the park will be open by October of this year.
