In this week’s Healthwatch Doctor David James tells us how to detect a stroke in it’s earliest stages. Noticing the symptoms early can allow a patient to get the right treatment and fully recover from the stroke. One thing many patients do is think symptoms might go away. Things like numbness, tingling and heaviness on one side of the body can be an early indication of a stroke. It’s important for people to know the difference between a stroke and a heart attack because some of the early treatments are different. One cause of strokes is high blood pressure and that can be monitored in your home. Anything above 140 over 90 is considered high blood pressure and keeping your blood pressure below that level can significantly cut your risk for having a stroke.
