Man Shot Several Times, Airlifted to Memphis

JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson police have released a description of two suspects, accused of gunning down a man in his own home. Residents on Greenfield Drive are nervous because the people suspected of shooting one of their neighbors are still on the run. Virginia Cupples said she could see the chaos from her front porch. “I hate that things like this happen. I hate it happens anywhere,” Cupples said. “So we just sit out here and waited on it to kind’ve die down a little bit.” Police said a 38-year-old man was shot inside his home late Wednesday night. Investigators said there was a struggle sometime after the victim reportedly let the suspects inside. Neighbors said they heard several gunshots, then saw people scatter. “I did turn on all my lights outside to be sure ’cause I know whoever did it was probably still in the neighborhood running around,” Cupples said. Neighbors said the victim often had people over at his house, but they never expected anything like this. “I couldn’t believe that he got shot, out of all people,” said neighbor Trimond Epperson. “I couldn’t believe that something like that was going on, just right across the street, you know, violence and things like that. He’s a good guy.” Another reason why neighbors said this shooting is such a surprise. “He minds his own business,” Epperson said. “He’s got a wife and kids, and I don’t understand how that happened to him.” Police said witnesses told them they saw two black men leaving the house and get into a silver or gray, four-door, newer model sedan. They described one of the men as having either braided or dread-lock style hair, and the other with a short hairstyle. The shooting is still under investigation.
