Animal Activists Protest at Jackson Walmart

JACKSON, Tenn. – A giant inflatable pig and protesters greeted customers outside the Walmart in North Jackson. The protest was organized by the non-profit group Mercy for Animals. The group said they held the peaceful demonstration to protest what they called the inhumane treatment of pigs by Walmart‘s pork suppliers. “Pigs are highly intelligent and social creatures and to force them into lives of misery and deprivation, force them to live in these crates where they can‘t even turn around, is blatant animal cruelty,” said Jeni Haines, Campaign Coordinator for Mercy for Animals. The group organized the protest after their undercover investigation reportedly uncovered the animal abuse at a major Walmart pork supplier.
