Organs Desperately Needed for Donations

JACKSON Tenn.- According to the Tennessee Donor Services there are more than 2,500 Tennesseans on the organ donation waiting list. Someone new is added every ten minutes. Ally Murray said she became an advocate for the cause after her brother, Shane Webb, was killed in a car accident. Webb’s organs were able to save three lives, including a father of two. “Everyday that I wake up that silver lining helps me get through one more day,” said Murray. “I know his life wasn’t in vain.” Last year, there were 738 transplants in the Volunteer State. Steve Jamison, the Pubic Education Coordinator with Tennessee Donor Services, said this year he would like to see that number grow. “Imagine if everyone would sign up, how many lives would be impacted and saved,” said Jamison. Murray said her brother’s story gives her peace in the time of loss. “I’m a walking, talking poster child for organ donation because I know the joy that it has given me. I know that people are living because my brother was unselfish, and a caring gentleman,” said Murray. To become an organ donor, you can sign up at donatelifetn.org.
