LEXINGTON, Tenn.- Lexington police confirmed they are investigating two of the city’s aldermen after a complaint the pair misused city equipment and property. Investigators said Jerry Bingham and Jack Johnson are accused of taking an undetermined amount of gravel from the Lexington Water System warehouse and the Lexington Public Works Department. “I want to make it clear,” said Mayor Tim Pierce, “This administration does not tolerate any official misconduct from any elected official or any other city employee. I take that very serious.” The complaint alleged city equipment was used by Alderman Johnson to load the gravel. Investigators have not said what the pair are accused of taking the gravel for. “They should be trustworthy,” said Lexington resident, Jerald McDainel. “We don’t work for them, they work for us.” Officers said they are trying to determine if there is any truth to the claims, and their findings will be given to the district attorney general’s office. “We can’t overlook, nor will I ever overlook official misconduct,” said Mayor Pierce. Neither alderman in question was able to be reached by WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News for comment on this investigation.
