Robbery Investigation in West Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson Police are searching for a barefooted suspect that they said attacked a truck driver early Saturday morning around 4:30 in the Robinson Toyota Dealership parking lot. Investigators said the victim was there unloading parts from his truck when a barefooted, bald black man, who wearing plaid shorts, appeared and started beating him with a metal pipe. “I think that’s just awful and terrible,” said resident Margie Martin. “You can’t even do your job out here. People are just crazy. They really are crazy. It’s just not safe. We just have to hold up our hands and pray for everybody.” Officers said the suspect robbed the driver of his personal belongings and then disappeared. Police said just an hour before the attack, a man matching this suspect’s same description was reportedly trying to break into the Sonic Drive-In off of North Parkway in East Jackson. Investigators said there could be a connection and they are looking into that possibility. “To think that I don’t live too far from where he was attacked, you think ‘oh gosh that could have been me’,” said resident Celeste Conley. “It does make you take pause. Like when I go to the store, do I need to call somebody to have them go with me, or wait until the next day when there’s more people around? It gives you cause to think.” Police said the suspect who tried to break in at the Sonic Drive-In was unsuccessful. Some residents said they believe Jackson at night has become too dangerous to go out. “You know they wait at night to come out that’s the way I see it,” said Martin. “They wait at night to come out and see what they can get.” Police said the suspect in both instances was described as a bald, black man with no shoes, wearing only plaid shorts and a gray t-shirt.
