One-Year-Old Shot in the Head

UPDATE 4:22 p.m.: Jackson police have taken Justin Byrd into custody. Tony Byrd is still at-large. JACKSON, Tenn. – Police are seeking two brothers in connection with the shooting of an infant, Monday night. Police believe Justin and Antonio Byrd got into a confrontation with residents in the complex around 10:30 p.m. Monday. The brothers reportedly got into a red Fiat to leave the area. As they pulled away, a shot was allegedly fired from the car that ricocheted off a door frame of building 16 and hit the child. At the time the child was in his mother‘s arms and she was standing in the open door of the building. Police do not believe the mother was involved in the confrontation. The one-year-old child was shot in the head and the bullet is believed to still be lodged in the baby’s skull. The child was taken to Lebonheur Children‘s Hospital in Memphis and is reported to be in stable condition. The Fiat the brothers were believed to have escaped in was recovered abandoned on West Park Place this morning. It had been borrowed by one of the brothers prior to the incident.
