McNairy County Relay for Life Launches in Fight against Cancer
SELMER, Tenn.-Friday night marked the launch of the Relay for Life event in McNairy County. The relay included a recognition and walk for the survivors, cooking at various tents, rides, live music, games for children and more. Organizers said it is an opportunity to not only honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost. But the event also raises awareness against the illness, and money used to help fuel the world’s largest walk to end cancer. “Relay for Life is the main fund raising event for the American Cancer Society, so our main goal is to eradicate cancer and to find a cure,” said Alisonh Hedge with Relay for Life. The event started at 6 p.m. Friday, and will go until 6 a.m., Saturday. Organizers said the goal for McNairy County is to raise $50,000.
