White Squirrel Festival Underway in Kenton

KENTON, Tenn.- The White Squirrel Festival is underway in Kenton. It is an annual celebration of the town’s most prized mascot – the white squirrel. Tuesday night, the town hosted a white bean-cornbread supper. After dinner, city leaders auctioned off dozens of items, such as bikes and a front porch swing. “Back in 1985, when this first started, all the little cities were trying to think of a name for their festival. Rutherford had the log cabin, you know, of course, Davy Crockett, so all we had was the white squirrels, so that’s why we name it the White Squirrel Festival,” said Kenton Mayor Virginia Davidson. That money will cover the cost of the fireworks for their annual fireworks show, which will be Thursday, July 4.
