JACKSON, Tenn. – Working out is now more accessible than ever in Jackson with an outdoor fitness trail. “I’m an outdoors person,” said Jacksonian Lyndia Brewer. “I enjoy being outside. I enjoy walking outside versus being inside on machines, so it’s perfect for me.” A mile and a half long trail, along with seven pieces of exercise equipment, have been staggered throughout downtown. Workers said the route was a long time coming. “It all came together where there was a group of people who said we need a downtown walking trail, that would be great,” said Katie Pace, executive director of Jackson Downtown Development Corporation. “You know we’ve got some up north at some of the city parks already, why don’t we have one downtown.” Whether you are taking a stroll through downtown Jackson or using strength equipment throughout the route, options will be there for your fitness, and you will be able to stay outside while you work out. “You workout with your own resistance, and it does have extreme benefit to the body and makes you healthier,” said Pace. “And then you get the cardio aspect of walking, and then you get the visual aspect of downtown.” With the trail, time is no restraint. You can make your way early in the morning, on your lunch break, or even after work. “You can just grab your tennis shoes, go out, walk a mile and a half, walk three miles, walk four and a half,” said Pace. “I mean you get to do whatever you want to do.”
