Classroom cookies, after-school meal in Shelby
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – There will be cookies and milk in the morning and a meal for students in after-school activities.
Tony Geraci, the food service director of the unified Shelby County schools told The Commercial Appeal the late meal isn’t meant to supplant suppers at home. Geraci calls it an additional meal for students involved in sports, band or other extracurriculars.
Geraci started a supper program in the Memphis City Schools two years ago. The breakfast in the classrooms and the after-school meal are new to Shelby County’s school system, which has offered a subsidized breakfast program for years.
