Retired UT professor establishes faculty award
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – University of Tennessee professor emeritus John R. Moore has established a faculty award bearing his name and that of his late wife.
Moore said he hopes the new John R. & Shirley Burr Moore Economics Faculty Award will repay part of the debt of the private support that financed it. Shirley Moore was also a UT faculty member. John Moore joined the UT faculty in 1953 and served in a variety of capacities, including most recently business researcher.
Moore was the principal investigator on research that brought more than $30 million in grants to the university through the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the state of Tennessee and the U.S. Department of Labor.
