JACKSON, Tenn.-City workers walked the streets of Jackson on Thursday. Crews canvassed part of the LANA neighborhood looking for residents with code violations. Workers check for blight issues. “Things such as peeling paint, overgrowth in grass, vehicles parked in the yard,” said Sylvester Bingham, a compliance inspector. If a homeowner does not fix the problem, the Neighborhood Services Department can issue a citation. “What we’re actually looking for is a long term solution to the problem, more so than trying to punish people,” said Bingham. Thursday the group looked at homes along Campbell Street, Crescent Avenue, and Deaderick Street. They plan to do another sweep sometime over the next four to six weeks.
