JACKSON, Tenn.- A fire at a south Jackson electrical substation puts customers in the dark and causes damage to the substation. Equipment at the substation on Perry Switch caught fire Wednesday morning and knocked out power to 6,000 customers for about 20 minutes. Jackson Energy Authority and Southwest Tennessee Electric issued a statement saying that, a contractor finished work on the south Jackson transformers two days ago to extend equipment life and after standard tests were performed it was back on line. Workers were on site but were not injured. The utility companies said they are working to find what caused the failure of the transformer.
