Jewelry, Equipment Stolen from Cars at Jackson Hotels

JACKSON, Tenn.-Burglars stole thousands of dollars in merchandise from guests at four Jackson hotels. “I saw that glass there on the other side of you first and then I’m thinking poor people, and then I walk over there on the other side of mine and I’m thinking poor John too,” said John Muizers, a burglary victim. Muizers is in Jackson coaching a girls softball team. He says someone smashed the back window of his SUV overnight at the Old Hickory Inn. Muizers says the thieves took his softball bats, golf clubs, and camera. “I hope some other people weren’t hit as hard as we were,” he said. Police say the suspects broke in cars at the Old Hickory Inn, Best Western, Econo Lodge, and the DoubleTree. All of those hotels sit on the Highway 45 Bypass. “They have went all through my truck, everything was just trashed,” said Shannon Johnson, a burglary victim. “There’s food all in my truck. There’s glass in my truck. I don’t know what all was taken.” Johnson says the thieves stole her laptops and wedding rings. “They could have took the truck and left the wedding ring sitting on the ground and I would have been fine because that can’t be replaced. They’re gone,” said Johnson. “I mean I can go buy new wedding bands, but it ain‘t gonna do no good. It‘s not the same.” Muizers estimates it will cost thousands of dollars to replace everything. “We’re gonna rethink probably where we stay next time,” he said. “We may go a little higher rent.” Guests said auto glass repair companies were backed up and it would likely take hours to get their windows fixed. If you have information about the thefts, call the Jackson Police Department at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-TIPS.
