PICKWICK, Tenn- The flood waters of the Tennessee River may be receding in Hardin County, but some business owners said they took a hit during their busiest season of the year. On any given day, officials at Pickwick State Park said they see hundreds of visitors; but after last week’s flood, the park is still quiet. Now locals are hoping business will pick back up. “July is our biggest tourism season here,” said Beth Pippin, with the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce. The Tennessee Valley Authority said a surprise round of flooding made one of the most popular parts of the river dangerous. “The high-side of the river is completely recreational,” said Steve Bunnell, CEO of Team Hardin County. Wednesday, TVA officials said the flooding is under control; but local business owners are concerned that people are still unsure about visiting. But some argue that the flooding was only a minor setback. “It’s going down now,” said Pippin. “And everyone is okay.” The local Chamber of Commerce leaders expect things to be back to normal for the rest of the summer.
