Boy, 13, charged in BB gun death of 4-year-old
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) – The Carter County Sheriff’s Office has filed a reckless homicide petition against a 13-year-old boy in the BB gun death of a 4-year-old.
The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/12Gu1aD ) reported the petition was filed in Juvenile Court after consultation with the district attorney general’s office.
Sheriff Chris Mathes scheduled a 2 p.m. news conference Wednesday to talk about the case.
The incident on July 2 killed Coty Cox. Investigators said the victim, the 13-year-old and a 10-year-old were alone in a mobile home.
The older boys took the victim to a neighbor’s home and said he had been bouncing on the bed and struck his head on a dresser. The neighbor called 911.
An autopsy revealed a BB in the child’s skull. A high-powered BB gun was found at the scene.
