House Destroyed in Early Morning Fire

TRENTON, Tenn. – Trenton firefighters are still putting out hot spots hours after a fire destroyed a vacant house, and damaged another one next door. “It made me feel a lot better, you know, she got out of the house just in time to go get some help,” said neighbor Betty Williams. Morgan Doaks said she was fast asleep, until her mother woke her up. She spotted the flames as she was getting ready for work. “So I jumped up,” Doaks said. “When I ran into the kitchen, the whole kitchen was just orange-red from the blazes from the house next door. So she ran across the street to get the firemen.” Then, Doaks said, she pulled their dogs out of their crates just in time. “I’m glad I got them out,” Doaks said. “As you can see, their house is burnt up pretty bad.” Some neighbors said they are not surprised the vacant house burned down. They claim it was an eye sore, saying it was rotting, and had holes in the roof. “It had a lot of damage to it. It needed to be fixed,” Williams said. Neighbors told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they are glad the vacant house finally came down. They just wish it did not have to happen like this. “It’d been better off to have been torn down, than being burned down,” Williams said. Doaks said she is just grateful her mom was awake, and they got out safely. “‘Cause, you know, you don’t wake up on average at 5 a.m., so if it had been a Saturday or something, it could’ve been a different story,” she said. Trenton firefighters said they are still investigating what caused the blaze. They said the house did not have electricity, but they do not consider it to be suspicious at this time.
