JEA Reopens Downtown, Renovations Ongoing

JACKSON, Tenn.–Jackson Energy Authority reopened its downtown office, Thursday for the first time in days. Water damage temporarily shut down the facility. “Look like remodeling,” said Vincent Weeks, a JEA customer. Weeks visited the office on East College Street on Thursday. “It’s quite convenient for me,” he said. The company says a water line for the ice maker broke over the weekend and flooded the building. “We have no carpet, but we are able to serve you,” said Rowland Fisher, Vice President of Customer Service. “We’ve got concrete floors, but we’re up and running. Cashiers are ready to serve you.” JEA crews from all different departments worked Wednesday to get the facility ready for customers. “We moved cubicles,” said Fisher. “We cut carpet and pulled it out and put it all back in place yesterday.” Fisher said they have not gotten the bill for the damage yet, but he expects repairs to cost several thousand dollars. “We made repairs and I don’t know if that ice maker will be back or not,” he said. Customers are glad the downtown office is back open. “They always been reliable, have always been you know open,” said Weeks. JEA ordered new carpet for the building. That should take several days to come in. The downtown office still needs some new paint and drywall. A JEA spokesperson said it should take at least several days before things are back to normal.
