Bethel Springs Community Helps Tractor Crash Victim

BETHEL SPRINGS, Tenn. – The Bethel Springs community has rallied in support of injured community member, Jackie Roach. “We’re trying to raise money for his family to aid them in their stay at the hospital with him and also the bills that come along with all of that,” said Amanda Smith of Strandz Hair Salon. Earlier this month, Roach was driving his tractor on Highway 45, heading back to his shop, when a semi-truck rear ended him. “He was ejected from the tractor, and he has many traumatic injuries due to that, including 10 broken ribs, a broken left shoulder, a broken back, a broken neck, and a broken nose,” said Madison Roach, the man’s daughter. “They amputated his left arm, and his lungs collapsed on the way to the hospital.” With Roach recovering at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Smith, who has worked with the family for years, decided to donate all of her day’s earnings to the family. Mary Kay makeup consultant Denise Parmely joined the cause as well, and Roach’s daughters held a yard sale in the parking lot. “We’ve had a good response from the customers that have come in so far just giving donations,” said Smith. Family members said that the overwhelming support has been amazing, and it is more than they ever could have imagined. “They’d give me $20 and they only owed me like $2,” said Roach. “They wouldn’t let me give them change back. Everybody’s been very generous towards us and we greatly appreciate it. And we greatly appreciate they prayers more than anything because that’s what got him there. If it weren’t for the prayers, my dad wouldn’t be alive.”
