JPD: 16 Year old Suffers Serious Injuries in Early Morning Shooting

JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson Police are searching for the gunman who shot a 16-year-old and another person in East Jackson around 8:30 A.M. on Sunday. “That scares me and my family. I’m waking up going to church. I know I’m going to have to pray a little bit harder now,” said neighbor Danny Harris. Investigators found the two young men shot on Allen Street. They said the 16 year old was shot several times and has serious wounds. Police said the other, victim who was walking with the teen, has non-life-threatening injuries. ” It’s just a tragedy, it really really is,” said neighbor Evelyn Cheairs. “It’s sad and the 6th trumpet hasn’t even sounded yet, but you would think that the devil was already here.” Police said they found more than 20 shell casings scattered across the roadway. Officers said there could be more than one shooter involved, and at this time no arrests have been made. According to police, the gunfire started over an argument. When officers arrived, only the two victims were on the scene. “Bullets don’t have eyes and that’s what kind of scares me the most with me being around my family and trying to take care of my kids,” said Harris.” Residents told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the the level of gun violence in East Jackson is out of control. Some said it feels like they are living in a nightmare… constantly fearing bullets at their back door. “It’s sad and everybody is up in arms about Zimmerman. What are we doing about crime right here? We need to do something about crime right here, not in Florida, not in other states, I sympathize with them but we need to do something right here in Jackson,” said Cheairs. “We need to pray. Get in church and hear the word because that’s the only thing that will save us. Please put the guns down.” So far no arrests have been made. Anyone with any information in this case is asked to call Jackson Police at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers (731) 424-8477.
