State Officials Visit Summer Work Program Participants

JACKSON, Tenn.-The commissioner of the Department of Children’s Services made a stop in Jackson. New commissioner Jim Henry was in the Hub City to see first hand the county’s summer youth work program called “Going Places.” The program, which is run by juvenile court gives at-risk teens a chance to stay busy throughout the summer while earning a pay check. They are paid minimum wage through the program. “They are very impressive young people and I know that young people get a lot of negative press these days but we have some good examples of some kids doing some good stuff and we are awfully proud of them,” said Amy Jones, director of Juvenile Services of Madison County. 50, 15 to 18 year-olds are participating this summer. Jackson and Madison County shared the cost of the program.
