Utility Company in Trenton Burglarized

TRENTON, Tenn. – Trenton police are looking for two people they said ransacked a local utility company. Employees said the burglars got away with cash and left a big mess. Police said the suspects broke into Trenton Light & Water through a bathroom window. “I’m surprised it happened here,” said Scott Dahlstrom, general manager for Trenton Light & Water. “You just generally don’t think of that type of thing happening in Trenton.” Police have surveillance video of the two suspects, looking around for money at the front window. Investigators said the thieves only got away with some cash from the night deposit box, and tried to get even more by breaking into the safe, but did not have much luck. “There was significant damage to the door of the safe, and the hallway where the safe is,” Lt. James Wilson said. “At one point, they tried to knock holes in the walls.” Utility workers said they had to delay opening for more than an hour, but are glad it was not worse. “We’ve been operating as normal all day, so all things considered, we’ve been very pleased with how we were able to get back and going and not impact our customers too bad,” Dahlstrom said. Police said they are working with other area investigators to figure out a motive. “This is the first time that our electric department has been broken into, but in the past, other electric departments have been hit by burglars,” Wilson said. Investigators do not believe the burglars are from this area. “I hope they’re from out of town,” Dahlstrom said. “I hope no one in Trenton would do that type of thing.” Anyone with information is asked to contact the Trenton police department at (731) 855-1413. Police said the suspects face a host of charges, including burglary and vandalism.
