Governor Kicks off Healthy Tennessee Campaign

JACKSON, Tenn. – Facilities like the new LIFT Wellness Center in downtown Jackson are exactly what Governor Bill Haslam believes will make a more fit Tennessee. “This effort is going to measure what we are doing, it’s going to get folks involved all across the state. We really are doing this because we think we can make a significant difference,” said Governor Haslam, referring to his “Healthier Tennessee” initiative. Part of the Governor’s initiative puts special focus on awarding schools and businesses whose challenges see results. “I really hope the citizens of Jackson and surrounding areas really take this opportunity to get active either here or at the LIFT Center or at their own homes anywhere you need to get physical movement,” said Lisa Piercy, M.D., V.P. of West Tennessee Healthcare. Governor Haslam believes that making Tennesseans healthier will not happen overnight and one step needs to be take at a time. He is confident that the Volunteer State will become a healthier place to live. “We look forward to increasing awareness, making significant progress, and then measure that at the end of the day. I think what gets measured, gets done, and we intend to have a real focus on results,” Governor Haslam said.
