JACKSON, TN.- A wreck involving a school bus took place at the intersection of Dr. F.E, Wright Drive and North Parkway this morning. A silver Dodge Nitro hit a school bus that did not have any children on board at the time. A Chevy Impala was also involved in the wreck, and the drivers of both cars were sent to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The wreck took place at 6:58 a.m., which tied up traffic for more than an hour during this morning’s rush hour. Stan Parker, JMC Schools Director of Operations confirmed that the bus driver was unharmed. “The driver is fine,” Parker said. “She was stopped and there were no school children on the bus when the incident occurred.” During the school year in Madison country, there are 440,000 school buses on the road transporting 24 million kids to school and home each day. “This is a busy time of year everybody getting used to school starting all over,” Parker said. “They need to remember we have over 100 buses that are running four routes a day.” Accident statistics show that on average 26 kids die every year in school bus accidents. “We always have somebody who thinks the law does not apply to them, but it does for everyone,” Parker said. “We now have cameras on the buses that we can help slow them down.” Jackson Madison County School leaders want to stress the importance of looking out for school buses and for school children. According to police, the accident was not the bus drivers fault.
