Shooting Victim Appears in Court
JACKSON, Tenn.– A Jackson judge has set the bond for a man involved in a robbery that ended in gunfire early August. Roddarous Bond, 18, who was shot and injured by his accomplice during an August 4 robbery, has a bond set at $200,000. Bond faces charges of two counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, burglary of a motor vehicle and theft more than $500. Around 5:40 p.m. on August 4, police were called about shots fired in Royal Arms Apartments, located at 1580 N. Royal Street. Officers responded and found shell casings in front of the 900 building. Police then received a call to Trinity Food Mart at 1586 N. Parkway. A 19-year-old man told officers that as he was sitting in his car in front of the 900 building when he was approached by two men, one of which investigators identified as Bond. According to the victim, the suspects demanded money. Bond is accused of reaching into the victim’s car window and taking the wallet and $500 that was laying in the car seat. As the victim drove away, the two men began shooting and struck his car numerous times. The victim was in the process of dropping his two-year-old son. Neither the man nor child was hit. Shortly afterward, Bond was brought Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with a gunshot wound. Bond told officers and investigators that he was an innocent bystander who was struck in the back during the gunfire in Royal Arms. Bond was admitted to the hospital. Investigators later determined that Bond was one of the robbers, and he was shot by his accomplice during the robbery. Police are still trying to determine the second man involved. He was described as a black man, around 5’10”, with short afro-style hair. He was wearing a black shirt and beige pants. The City Court Judge will set bail for Bond on Saturday morning. Bond will be arraigned at 8 a.m. Monday in Jackson City Court.
