Knoxville bridge being dedicated to trooper

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Officials in Knoxville are planning to dedicate a road bridge to a fallen Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett and members of the Knox County Commission are scheduled to dedicate a bridge on Longmire Road to Trooper Michael Slagle on Friday.

Slagle died after his patrol cruiser slid off of Longmire Road during an ice storm last January. Slagle served more than 25 years with the highway patrol.

In June, the commission joined Burchett in co-sponsoring and passing a resolution renaming the Longmire Road Bridge over Flat Creek in memory of Slagle.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Friday.
