UT University Center evacuated after robbery

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Law enforcement officials in East Tennessee have released a description of the person who they say robbed a credit union office and left a package he claimed was a bomb at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

UT officials evacuated the University Center after the episode shortly before 11:30 a.m. EDT Tuesday. The FBI says the man fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money, leaving behind a package that he claimed contained a bomb. An explosives team determined it was a hoax device.

The FBI said in a news release that the man was black, in his late 40s to early 50s, 180 to 190 pounds, 6 feet to 6-2 and wearing white medical scrubs with a gray striped polo shirt underneath, black ball cap, a white 3M dust mask and one blue latex glove.
