2 men enter guilty pleas in shootings
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Two Tennessee men charged in a double shooting in southern Kentucky that resulted in one death and one injury have pleaded guilty to reduced charges.
The Kentucky New Era (http://bit.ly/15enpnn) reports Hersey Mitchell entered a guilty plea to reckless homicide in the death of Shannon Fairley on Monday in Christian Circuit Court. His co-defendant, Louis Spencer, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault for wounding Desmond Leavell. Originally, Mitchell was charged with murder and Spencer was charged with first-degree assault.
Prosecutor Lynn Pryor said she wasn’t happy with the amended charges but didn’t want to risk a possible acquittal based on a lack of evidence.
An attorney for Mitchell and Spencer said they shot the other men in self-defense.
