UPDATE: Jackson Teacher Charged with Sex Crimes Against Minor

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Northeast Middle School teacher has been arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and solicitation of a minor. Franklin Mitchell, 28, has been arrested for sending a sexually explicit photo to a teenage boy and soliciting the teen for sex. Mitchell was arraigned Thursday morning in Jackson City Court on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and solicitation of a minor. On Wednesday, the police department’s Special Investigations Bureau became aware that Mitchell was attempting to solicit the teen for sex via the Internet. The investigation revealed that during an online conversation, Mitchell sent the teen a nude image of an adult male. Mitchell also solicited the teen to meet him at McDonald’s on N. Highland Avenue. Mitchell further made an arrangement for him and the teen to return to Mitchell’s home for sex. Instead of the teen, investigators arrived at McDonald’s and took Mitchell into custody around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was transported to the Madison County Jail. As of midday, Mitchell was being held at the Madison County Jail on $10,000 bond. The Jackson-Madison County School System has suspended Mitchell without pay, as of Thursday, pending investigation into allegations related to the arrest. School administrators have been informed that the minor was not a JMCSS student. Mitchell has been directed not to be present on any school campus during this period of suspension. Mitchell has been employed with the JMCSS since August of 2010.
