Pair of Businesses Burglarized, Could be Connected

SELMER, Tenn. — Selmer Police are investigating two early morning burglaries that they believe are connected. Police said burglars broke into the Selmer Cash Master around 3 a.m., Wednesday. The burglars searched the office for cash, but left with nothing. Selmer Police Lieutenant Roger Rickman believes that this break-in is connected to another burglary just down the road. “Later on in the morning after daylight, they rode by and noticed that the Citgo, which has been closed for a few weeks, the front door had been broken out and it had been burglarized also,” Rickman said. Police said thieves caused hundreds of dollars in damage at the recently closed gas station. They broke out windows and ripped out the electrical system. They also grabbed the security system’s recording device. “They’d take the DVR for the simple fact where we couldn’t go back on the DVR and look and see who it was,” said Rickman. Local business worker Paige Jones says she is worried about the recent break-ins. “Any place could be a target, and I mean this place could be an easy target because nobody is watching,” Jones said. So far, there are no suspects in either case, but police said they believe the same criminals might be responsible for both break-ins because of the similarities in the cases. “Similar damage in both places,” Rickman said. “They were both ransacked. Both happened the same night.” “It’s more than likely the same people then it being two separate people on the same night,” Jones said. “I would say they’re going to do it again. If they haven’t been caught, they’re going to do it again.” Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Selmer Police Department.
