BOLIVAR, Tenn- After three days of testimony, the jury took just an hour to convict one-time Police Chief, Pat Ryan of theft under $500, a Class A misdemeanor. “It’s somewhat disappointing but at the same time it’s been a hard fought trial,” Mike Robbins, Ryan’s attorney said. Prosecutors argued Ryan sold Grand Junction police uniforms, reflective vests and a dog kennel that belonged to the police department and pocketed the money. The state argued he was guilty of stealing more than $1,000 in items, a felony; but the jury decided on the lesser charge. Robbins said it is too early to decide if they will appeal. “Obviously, he wanted a not guilty verdict; but he understands that it’s a better result than it might have been,” said Robbins. Ryan is fined $1,000; and is scheduled to appear in court October 3 for sentencing.
