Pedestrian Killed in Haywood Wreck

HAYWOOD CO, Tenn. – A Haywood County wreck involving two cars and a pedestrian has left a man dead. Antonio Powell, 28, of Mason was killed Tuesday morning in an accident that was started by a cardboard box. According to the police report, two vehicles were traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 70. A work crew was parked on the eastbound shoulder. The driver of the first vehicle, a 2003 Chevy Cavalier, saw a cardboard box in the roadway and stopped. The second vehicle, a 1999 Kenworth was approaching from the rear and rear ended the Cavalier on the passenger side rear. The Kenworth then left the roadway, went into a ditch, struck a pedestrian and embankment and overturned. The driver of the second vehicle was injured. Alcohol was not considered to be a factor in the crash.
