UT Research Picks Pumpkins, Gears Up For Fall

WEST JACKSON, Tenn. – It’s three days away from the Fall season, and that means it is almost pumpkin-picking season. Workers at the UT Research Center in West Jackson started gathering pumpkins from their fields for their annual fall display. More than 5,000 pumpkins are grown at the center for research purposes. After they’re picked, the pumpkins will be washed and sorted before they’re converted into a work of art. “It’s a way to give them great ideas, if they want to use pumpkins for decorating,” Ginger Rowsey UT Agriculture Research Center said. “That is the number one use for pumpkins, decor, fall decor. The pumpkin harvest display is typically comprised of more than 70 varieties of pumpkins, gourds and winter squash. It’ll be open to the public daily from September 26 through December 1. The campus is located on Airways, just off the Highway 45 Bypass.
