Second Minor Arrested in Connection with July Shooting

JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson police have arrested a 17-year-old male wanted for two counts of attempted murder in connection to a July 21 shooting in Allenton Heights. Around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Special Operations investigators developed information on where the teen was hiding. Police went to a home in the 80 block of Holland Ave. to arrest him. Officers were allowed inside by the homeowner. The homeowner, Kimberly Jeter, says she had no idea the teen was wanted. “It pisses me the heck off,” Jeter said. “Because I’m trying to inform my children’s friends and their associates that I do not want my house to be the hanging out spot for thugs.” Police believed the teen was inside a bedroom. A K-9 officer gave a warning that a dog would be used for apprehension, and the teen surrendered without incident. He was transported to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center. A second, 16-year-old suspect was arrested July 25 and remains in custody at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center. Prosecutors intend to have the teens tried as adults. A 17-year-old shooting victim remains in a Memphis hospital in critical condition. Police are not searching for anyone else in connection with this shooting. Around 8:30 a.m. July 21, police received a shots fired call in the area of Conger St. and Allen Ave. Officers arrived and found the then 16-year-old boy lying on the shoulder of the roadway on Allen Ave. He had been struck multiple times by gunshots. The victim was transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and was later airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis. He remains in the hospital. The investigation revealed that the boy and a 22-year-old man were walking together through the Allenton Heights public housing complex. They walked past a group of males who were sitting outside. The 17 and 16-year-old suspects were among the group. The two suspects shot at the two victims. The boy was shot multiple times and the man was grazed on the hand by a bullet. The teen will be held at the detention center pending a detention hearing in Madison County Juvenile Court on two counts of attempted murder.
