JACKSON, Tenn. – Streets throughout Jackson were bustling as neighbors banded together against crime, Tuesday night. Hundreds around the city celebrated their communities and neighborhoods through block parties as part of the 30th Annual National Night Against Crime. Lisa Silver hosted one of the 25 events throughout Jackson. She said she has hosted parties for the past decade and describes the night as an all around positive event. “Everyone just enjoys just being outside and being together,” Silver said. Jurmone Bunds, 8, of Jackson, said he was excited to attend his first National Night Out. “We are just eating, drinking, and fighting crime!” Bunds said. The event was also an opportunity for firefighters and officers to get to know those they serve everyday. Bunds says his interaction with those officers may have changed his life. “I think when I grow up I’m gonna be a police man,” Bunds said. “And I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun catching bad guys!” If you’re interested in starting a neighborhood watch where you live call your local police department.
