JPD Conducts Saturation Operation During National Night Out

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Police Department conducted a saturation operation on Tuesday that coincided with the 30th annual National Night Out. The officers looked at the “Night Out” as an opportunity to not only attend the 26 block parties in neighborhoods across the city, but also to suppress crime by strict enforcement. The operation was similar to the Checkmate operations in that it included sworn officers from across the entire department. It differed by utilizing only about 35 officers instead of the 90 officers used in the full department mobilizations. Police also included narcotics search warrants during the National Night Out operation. Officers conducted 32 warrant checks, issued 28 traffic citations for a total of 37 violations and made 18 arrests. Officers also recovered cocaine, marijuana, synthetic marijuana, prescription drugs and a handgun from a convicted felon. The Metro Narcotics Unit planned and executed three search warrants. Investigators simultaneously searched two apartments in East Pointe Apartments. They also searched a house at 98 Everett Street. The search warrants led to the recovery of heroin, marijuana and accounted for three of the 18 arrests. Based on the recovered drugs, narcotics investigators seized six cars, one motorcycle and $ 21,362.69 under the civil forfeiture laws of the Tennessee Drug Control Act The names, ages and charges of those arrested during the operation are as follows: 1. Ronyea McClellan, 25 possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, evading arrest 7. Dennie Price, Jr., 31 contempt of court 8. Duke Rogers, 47 littering, criminal trespass, public intoxication 9. Shelby Shaw, 23 simple assault, harassment, trespassing 10. 17-year-old male possession of synthetic marijuana, drug paraphernalia The following people were issued citations in lieu of arrest: 11.
