HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn.- Henderson County deputies are investigating after several rifles and other valuables were taken during an aggravated burglary, Thursday. Investigators said thieves jumped the fence and kicked in the back doors of a home off of Petty Road in Lexington, Thursday. Homeowner Tina Williams told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News it was her 14-year-old son who came home and discovered the house had been ransacked. She said she believes at least one of their three family pets tried to defend the property and was hurt or likely hit during the burglary. “You lose more than just the money; you lose more than just the stuff, luckily I didn’t lose a family member, we just lost our sense of security,” Williams said. “The first thing I did was walk back there and see that the back door was busted open, I saw the bed springs and mattress was up against the wall and all of the guns were gone.” Deputies said the items stolen from the residence include a gateway laptop computer, a 32″ flat screen T.V., an X-box 360 game system with 2 black controllers, X-box games, an Argentinian Mauser 1891 7.65 Caliber Rifle Wood Stock, a Savage Lever Action .284 Caliber Rifle Wood Stock with Millet scope, and a Winchester 3030 lever action rifle, buffalo Bill edition with an octagon barrel. Family members said what is most troubling is that one of the guns taken has a broken safety. “It’s not safe to be out there, I mean even if someone was just going to use it for hunting it’s not safe to take because if you have it loaded you can trip and fall and it’ll go off and the next thing you’ll know you’re hunting partner or kid is no longer there,” owner Brett Skinner said. “Without knowing, that gun could go off anytime and it could hurt somebody,” Williams said. Deputies said over the past few weeks there has been a recent increase in the amount of burglary cases across some southern parts of Henderson County. Officials are warning residents to take precautions in securing their property. “Take all of the precautions that you can to be safe enter your house safely check everything out everyday,” Williams said. “Don’t just walk through your front door and expect you’re the only one there because you don’t know and with all these burglaries going on, you just don’t know right now.” If you have any information in this case or believe you may have purchased any of the stolen items contact the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department at (731) 968-7777.
