Two Couples Charged in Six Burglary Cases

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn.- Henderson County deputies said they have linked a cross-state crime spree to two Lexington couples. Officers charged Curtis Ball, Alisa Denton, Kimberly Taylor and Landis James with six counts of burglary and felony theft, Tuesday after one burglary victim spotted the suspect’s vehicle at a local trading post and reported it to authorities. “One of our victims happens to be driving by and he sees a white Equinox SUV at a trading post,” Capt. Tracey Grisham of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Dept said. “The man in it was trying to sell power tools that was one of the big things stolen is power tools.” Grisham said further investigation revealed the tools were stolen from Chattanooga. Deputies said some of their suspects later admitted to breaking into several homes in Henderson County then turning around and selling the stolen items in East Tennessee. Investigators from Chattanooga told sheriff’s deputies they believe the two couples were also selling stolen property from Chattanooga across West Tennessee. “The way I understand them this is the only form of work they have is going out and stealing, so yeah, that’s their career,” Capt. Grisham said. “They even admitted to doing things in Florida over the past weekend, in fact the tag on their car was stolen from Florida.” Deputies said during the arrest at a mobile home in south Lexington, where all four were temporarily staying, suspect Kimberly Taylor ran into a neighboring home. Officials said Taylor was arrested after officers found her hiding in a clothes dryer. “She definitely knew that she was going to be in some trouble I guess, so she was trying to hide,”neighbor Courtney Teague said. Neighbors said other than noticing high traffic to and from the mobile home, the four suspects have always kept to themselves. “It’s scary because we usually don’t lock our doors here well all know our neighbors and stuff so that will change,” said neighbor Emily Wilson. Deputies said they are still trying to track down all of the stolen items, they anticipate additional charges could follow pending their investigation. Denton, Taylor and James face six counts of burglary and felony theft. Ball is charged with seven counts of burglary and felony theft. Taylor is additionally charged with one count of criminal impersonation. All four are being held in the Henderson County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
