MICHIE, Tenn. – Investigators are searching for clues after vandals damaged at least $1,000 worth the property at Michie Elementary School and the neighboring city park. “Sometimes you’re going to deal with some vandalism and things like that, but it’s a little bit frustrating particularly in this case,” Michie Elementary principal Wayne Henry said. Investigators said the criminals shattered glass, broke doors and smashed through concrete walls, but stole nothing. The school scrambled and salvaged the damaged property before Monday’s season finale school football game, but officials said more repairs may need to be done. Principal Henry said the vandalism has sent a quiver through the community. “Everybody that is here at the school or associated with the school, they don’t like someone coming on our school campus and damaging something for no reason whatsoever,” Henry said. Investigators said information about the suspects, including their potential motives, are unclear. So with many questions and the criminals still on the loose, they said it is very important to get them off the streets quickly. School officials said they are upset with the damage, but are thankful the incident was not worse. “There’s a lot of other areas that could’ve been vandalized, and we’re fortunate here at our school that that did not happen,” Henry said. “But anything that cat could be done to get them off the streets, that would be great.” If caught, the alleged criminals face burglary and felony vandalism charges. Investigators said they do have persons of interest in the case, but have made no arrests. If you have any information that can help the investigation, call the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department at (731) 645-1004.
