TOONE, Tenn. – A local community came together to help a long-time business owner rebuild after his uninsured Speed Shop was destroyed in a fire. Kenneth Elder, owner of Ken’s Speed Shop in Toone, is rebuilding after he watched the shop he owned for 32 years burn to flames last month when an air conditioning unit caught on fire. “It was devastating,” Elder said. “I didn’t think I would be able to rebuild it ever.” That is until people in the community began calling and stopping by, asking what they could do to help. Some donated time, others money and equipment. “I thought we would have to do something else for work,” Elder’s youngest son, Cameron, who also works at the Speed Shop said. To have some income coming in they are still working; but in a makeshift tent; and with temperatures dropping they said they’re thankful for the help they’re receiving so they can get back inside sooner than later. Elder said they should be done rebuilding completely by the end of the month.
