Hundreds of Seniors Participate in Olympics

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Hundreds of seniors from across West Tennessee played for the gold at the annual Senior Olympics hosted by the Tennessee Health Care Association. Participants from 20 area nursing facilities competed in everything from basketball to dart throwing to wheelchair races. There were also art and photography contests. And of course no Olympics is complete without awards. But organizers say ultimately, this is a great way to keep seniors active and young at heart. “Bring some attention to the fact that these people are not over the hill and they’re still active and they are very valuable to the community and we just love them,” Activities Director of Milan Health Care Jackie Collins said. The event was held at the Jackson Fairgrounds in Downtown Jackson.
