Two Stolen Vehicles Set on Fire

MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn — Two vehicles stolen from different locations in McNairy County were found burned in the woods. The McNairy County Sheriff’s Department said the vehicles were stolen Monday night. Investigator Robert Hitchborn said that after a logging truck and Tahoe were stolen, the alleged thieves took the vehicles to a desolate area in the Beauty Hill community and set them on fire. “A neighbor that lives close to where the logging truck was stolen heard a large vehicle come by with the gears grinding,” Investigator Hitchborn said. The logging truck was taken from Beauty Hill Road, and the Tahoe was stolen on High School Road in Selmer. Investigators said once the logging company realized one of their trucks was missing, they started checking roads for tracks and ended up in the woods. Investigator Hitchborn said a blue cooler with beer bottles inside of it was left at the scene. He said they will depend on interviews and physical evidence to lead them to the suspects. “We did get some foot impressions (of potential suspects), some shoe wear impressions,” Investigator Hitchborn said. Truman Stanley said he has worked for Three Hollows Logging Company for 11 years, and he has never seen anything like this. “It makes me feel bad,” Stanley said. “I saw it. It’s a bad thing.” Stanley said even though the truck will be expensive to replace, the company has no choice but move forward. “Why did they do it? (Out of) meanness, or just to have something to do?” Stanley said. The Tahoe owners could not be reached for comment.
